Walk in the Light of the Lord

The pupils decided that this would be the school motto from September 2007.

It was a surprising choice. When asked why it was his choice a boy in year 6 said that light shows us the way and that is like Jesus showing us the way to live our life.  Very impressive thinking!

Sports Rounders

Rounders all Round!

The summer term is the time when rounders comes to the fore as the team sport enjoyed most by the children. Initially playing with a tennis ball and then graduating to a much harder rounders ball the year 6's quickly come accustomed to the peculiar rules of the game.

This is fortunate as the Annual Rounders Festival took place at Fairoak High School on the morning of Friday 13th. A team of year 6 had been selected and the 4 girls and 5 boys comprising the team, set of at just gone 9.00am.

On reaching the venue the event was run as a three groups of three leagues, with the positions of those, going on to play each other. ie. first play first of each league etc. Slick fielding and good running ensured that Churchfield went through as one of the league winners to play the other two winners. These matches turned out to be tight affairs with excellent fielding and rounders being scored on all sides. At the end of the tournament, the team of Churchfield came out as worthy

Runners up!

Second place out of nine competing teams is a great result. Well done to you all!

Not content with just playing in the morning, we had matches arranged for after school. Two teams were to play two teams from St Joseph's. By 3.45pm both pitches were ready and parents and players alike waited in anticipation.

St. Joseph's arrived and the games began. |The A teams playing each other and the then B's, likewise, followed by a swap. Much like the tag rugby of a previous week.

For the A team, St Josephs fielded well, especially their backstop and 1st base positions. However, Churchfield were able to capitalise on gaining half rounders. After the first round of matches, Churchfield A and B had won their  matches by 9 - 3.5 and 5.5 - 3.5 respectively. The second round of matches and the children were really getting the hang of the game. Great catches, hits and throws made on all sides, and after the 10 minutes each way of the games were, finished the results were: Churchfield A winning 11- 4.5 against St Joseph's B, and Churchfield B just going down 10- 4.5.

A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a Friday after school. Thanks goes to all the players from both schools who made it such a competitive and fairly played occasion. Also to the parents who came and supported the children, especially those performing a Mexican wave on the adventure trial.
